Tasting Notes:
The unique dark basalt rock (Diabas) that gives the wine its name delivers a deep, smoky lemon minerality skulking in narrow alleys and seeping into dark doorways like the villain in a Victorian mystery novel. Enter our heroine, the residual sweetness, to bring light back to our story and draw out the weightless purity and floral lace that the 2016 vintage has come to embody. Steely citrus and green apple aromas shine a blinding spotlight into the mineral mist while savory spice and a racy, low-cut acidity delivers straight-out sex appeal. A fine grapefruit cliffhanger finish -- the only thing to do now is relish the last sip and eagerly await next year’s sequel. A sweeter counterpoint to the dry flagship GG.
Serving Suggestions:
A medium-bodied wonder that suits a wide range of somewhat heartier cuisines from braised veal to Pad Thai, to lamb shanks in rich Asian sauce.
